Women’s History Month 2022
“Women’s History Month is a time to commemorate and celebrate the often-overlooked contributions of women in history. For us, Filipino Americans, history is not just the past. It is what we are making as individuals and communities, every single day!”
NaFFAA—Nevada’s Women’s History Month event was held on Mach 28, 2022, Monday at Dance Starz Cafe (3399 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas NV 89146.
“At our evening together, women who we respect and admire will share with us their journey through life with a focus on the women who have influenced them the most. They will encourage us to be bold and live life on our own terms”, exclaims Asela Engel, NaFFAA Nevada Program Chair.
“Telling their life stories in their own voices encourages each of us to take pride in our own personal stories, “ states Amie Belmonte, NaFFAA NV WHM Committee Member.

The event was well-attended with a cross section of Las Vegas community from politics, education, hospitality, health care, civic and community leaders.
This year’s honorees were: Vissia Calderon, for Immigration and Naturalization matters; Carolene Layugan, for her stellar achievement in a male-dominated field; Grace Vergara-Mactal, for her steady voice and unwavering commitment in advancing workers’ rights; Erica Mosca, for empowering under-represented students to become inspiring leaders in their communities; and Elizabeth P. Smith, for her entrepreneurial leadership in the dynamic and highly-competitive food retail chain business.
Event Branding and Creative Direction was done by Olivia L. Enriquez, of Luna Design International and the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Nevada or FACCGN. She has been taking charge of the WHM Events with her animated Filipina icons as identity for NaFFAA NV for the past two years.
